Hello model-building fans! Today, we’re taking an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the development of our soon-to-be-released Gloster Meteor model kit. Luke Slaney-Hewitt has once again shared fascinating insights into the progress and the tools that play a part in the creation of this kit.
Project Progress: From CAD Design to Finished Model

In the current episode of Revell Model Kit News, Luke told us how the development of the Gloster Meteor began with detailed CAD designs. These designs are essential to capture the complexity and the many parts of the model. The Gloster Meteor consists of over 400 parts, making it one of the most detailed kits we have produced in recent years.
The Tools for Injection Molding: Precision in Every Detail
A fascinating aspect of development is the construction of the highly precise tools. Luke explained how the tools for the Gloster Meteor are manufactured from steel and processed using cutting-edge EDM technology (Electrical Discharge Machining). This technology enables the complex shapes and details of the model to be created with the utmost precision.
A special feature is the so-called “Double Run Tool,” which enables specific parts of the model, such as the engines, to be produced efficiently. This approach saves resources by, for example, producing the engines using one tool but multiple runs. The injection molding frames are optimally designed for this purpose.
Exclusive Extras and Painting Options
The Gloster Meteor kit will be a special model-building experience. Luke emphasized that the first edition of the kit will be equipped with numerous extras, including:
- An exclusive book by Duke Hawkins, offering detailed insights into the restoration and operation of the Meteor.
- In addition, there is an A3 poster featuring an original advertisement from the 1950s.
- Masks for the cockpit glazing
- And a colored photo-etched parts set for the cockpit.

The painting options are just as varied. The kit contains five different painting schemes, including the famous Australian version and the Belgian target tug version. This variety allows you model builders to fully unleash your creativity and create a unique model.

The development of the Gloster Meteor model kit is an impressive example of the combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. Thanks to the detailed work by Luke and his team, model builders can hold a piece of aviation history in their hands.

We’re already looking forward to seeing the finished models at upcoming fairs and are excited to see what creative interpretations you as builders will create from it.
We’ll keep you posted 🙂
